Programs aboard the Lavengro

Schooner Kids
Schooner Kids conducts educational programs aboard the Schooner LAVENGRO, a restored 1926 wooden sailboat owned by the Northwest Schooner Society, currently based at the Center for Wooden Boats in South Lake Union. From May through October 2012, Schooner Kids is offering a combined art and maritime program entitled "What Boat is That?" This is a fun two-hour interactive dockside class for children ages four through twelve. Children begin the program with Captain Kim, who engages the participants in hands-on activities, imparting her enthusiasm for maritime history in Seattle and seamanship skills. The children will get a chance to set a sail and get an introduction to specific kinds of boats that exist(ed) on Lake Union and in the Puget Sound: Native American cedar canoes, steam boats, tugboats, ferries, sailboats, fishing vessels, motor boats, and cargo vessels. The children will learn how these boats serve the community, and who works on them.

Classes are offered every Monday and Tuesday at 10:00am, 12:30pm, and 2:30pm Classes are drop-in, first come first serve. We also make special arrangements to book an entire class for your group.
